FAQ

FAQ – Frequently asked questions:

Installation:

  1. What are the hardware requirements for RTH?
RTH does not need any high performance hardware – any desktop PC where you can run a LAMP installation will be sufficient.
  2. What are the software requirements for RTH?
Please have a look at our certified environment page
  3. I want to install RTH on a Microsoft Windows environment – is that supported?
RTH is developed and tested on Linux – however it may work in your environment.
  4. Where can I find the RTH documentation?
All documentation can be found in “docs” sub-folder of RTH.

Usage:

  1. What are the differences between the 3 user roles in RTH?
Please have a look at the user roles overview.
  2. I’m trying to import test steps from an Excel file but I’m getting an error “The filename /tmp/file is not readable”.
Most likely this is because of an incompatibility with the Excel version – you have to save your test steps file as “Microsoft Office Excel Workbook (*.xls)” and NOT as “Microsoft Excel 4.0 Worksheet (*.xls)
  3. I would like to integrate RTH with “software x” – how can I do that?
RTH provides an API for connections to other software – please have a look at the source code for further details.
  4. Feature “x” is not working as expected – what should I do?
Please open a ticket on our SourceForge tracker – I will take a look at it as soon as possible.
  5. How do I copy test sets?
navigate to the destination test set (or create a new one) – click on “copy” link – navigate to source test set – mark test cases – click “copy”

Project:

  1. Can I try RTH without installing it?
Sure – just have a look at our demo installation.
  2. Is there a project roadmap available?
    I’m sorry but “no”.
  3. I would like to contribute to RTH – how can I help?
Any help is very much appreciated – please contact me via email “andreas<underscore>rth<at>24speed<dot>at”.

Other:

  1. What is “RTH-Turbo”
RTH Turbo has the same code base as RTH 1.6.1 and is developed by an other developer – for questions or comments regarding “RTH-Turbo” please have a look at the project page.

    Hi,

I am having the “ERROR: Unable to create project folders.” when trying to create a new project or renaming the project.

    Anyway to solve this issue?

    Thanks.

    • requirementsandtestinghub Says:

Are you sure you (or the user running the web server) have write access to your RTH folder (e.g. /var/www/html/rth) and all subfolders?

      • Mark_L Says:

I am also having the “ERROR: Unable to create project folders.” when trying to create a new project or renaming the project.

I’ve amended the permissions to all folders but I still get the error, I’ve even tried on the demo project you host and the same error is produced there.

Please help, I would like to demo this tool asap.

        Thanks

      • requirementsandtestinghub Says:

        Hi!

Creating new projects is disabled on the demo system due to security reasons – so this has to be a configuration issue on your installation.

        Sorry for the inconvenience.

        regards
        Andreas

I am trying to add columns to the requirement table, I have added them to the table, is there any way I can get them to be displayed onto the webpage. This is the Requirement page. Thankyou for any help

    • requirementsandtestinghub Says:

      Hi!

In order to display the added columns you will have to modify the source code of RTH. I’m afraid but I cannot provide more help on this.

      regards

    BRAVO!!!!

I was all set to try and “make” Mantis or Eventum “work” to manage my web projects lifecycle.. (was leaning more towards Eventum as it came closest to being “workable”)

I am soooooooo glad I did “one more” Google search and found this.. I’m gonna go out on a limb and assume that it is a SOLID stable codebase because:
    a. YOU are still supporting this product — bravo!!!
    b. Though RTH has not had a new release in over a year you STILL support it — double BRAVO!!!!

I have been through the demo site and I could hardly contain myself I was so excited by how this system works.. Child requirements??? Tracability matrixs?? Requirements tied to defects AND test cases?? Oh be still my beating little business analyst heart!!!!

I’ve been a BA for over 20 years and I’ve NEVER used a tool this good or feature rich in the corporate world!!!! Didn’t think anything like this existed!!! (which is why I was gonna “make” Mantis or Eventum “work” for me.. (have done this in the past)

Will be installing and taking this through it’s paces tonight!!! I do have one question.. I’m sure the answer is yes, but I can install this on my webhost right?? I don’t need my OWN physical server correct???

    • requirementsandtestinghub Says:

      Hi!

Thanks a lot for you comment – I am happy to hear that 🙂

Yes, the only thing you need is a LAMP installation.

      Best regards
      Andreas

    I am using 1.6.1 version

Hi all. I am having trouble with “Use of an undefined constant RTH_URL – assumed “RTH_URL. I’m sure I didn’t configure something right after installing.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi again. I do apologise for posting again. When I check back to this site I don’t see my posts. I’m getting the following messages when going to admin_page.php. Hi Tony!

Your comments need to be approved in order to see the on the webpage 🙂

Regarding your question: It seems there is a problem when finding out the hostname of your server – did you try to re-install RTH? Is the hostname set correctly?

      Best regards
      Andreas

  14. Tony Lombardo Says:

Thanks Andreas. I guess my question is where does the hostname need to be set correctly? Is it each line of each file that is giving errors? It seems like it passes the variable “rth_url” from the properties_inc.php file to the other config files? Example, authentication_api.php file? Or do I have something set wrong in that file as well? So if I fix properties_inc.php does that fix the others?

Sorry, if this is not clear.
    Tony

    • requirementsandtestinghub Says:

      Hi!

You are right – setting it in properties_inc.php will fix it – but I’m not sure why this does not work automatically – perhaps the hostname on the machine is not set correctly?

      • Tony Lombardo Says:

Thanks again Andreas. Where in properties_inc.php do I need to check if it is set properly? What is properly?

        🙂
        Tony

      • requirementsandtestinghub Says:

Sorry – what I meant was the hostname of the machine – I guess it is a linux box? Did you try “hostname -f” on commandline?

  15. DivaVocals Says:

Still wondering if this package is PHP 5.3 compatible.. Anyone???

    • requirementsandtestinghub Says:

      Hi!

This has not been tested yet – so you will have to try on your own 😉

      regards

I have been improving the test run manual functionality to include the latest jquery services – this has enabled the system testing and the user acceptance testing to be conducted by end user rather than only system analysts, developers and business analysts. Would appreciate your guidance in sharing the development and the code (so far).

Must say – I had to try all industry leading organisations – tools and techies – to end up finding your tool – thanks for initiating such a revolutionary tool in the software testing and quality assurance fraternity. I would like to make contributions in elevating this tool to link with content management systems – like drupal – am currently building a team that is going make this possible.

Your collaboration in the getting the tool elevated to be one of (or the leading) user friendly and user-oriented software testing and quality assurance tool in the world – will be highly appreciated. Please let me know – what resource can I bring to the table for us to add to the continued development and deployment of the tool.

Is it planned that when creating a test set, the filtering option will use the requirement association to propose only tests linked with “release xxx” as a multi-selection field.

    Test case exmple:
    1/ Test Pre-requisite:
Filter selection: smaller than Release 1.0 (or a hard selection based on the available releases)

    Test 1
    -> requirement 1 (Release 2.0)
    -> requirement 2 (Release 1.0)

    Test 2
    –> requirement 3 (Release 2.0)

    Test 3
    –> requirement 3 (Release 1.0)

    2/ Test description
    a. Go into release
    b. Select release 1.0 (then build xxx) (must be created if required)
    c. Create a new test set
    d. Go to the select test page
    e. Set in the release filter option (using checkbox, reg exp, number based logic or any other solution): lower than “current release” (or release XXX)
    f. Apply filter

    3/ Expected results
    a. The available released (then builds) are shown
    b. The available test sets are shown
    c. The test set configuration page appears
    d. The test selection page appears
    e. TBD according to choosen solution
    f. Test 1 and 3 appears in the list but not the number 3

    Nb.
The logic should not be ported for the build since, the requirements are linked with the releases (not the builds)

  22. Romain Says:

About the last post, a checkbox with “includes tests not linked with releases” might be interesting (if using the release filter).
